Sept 2022 Meeting topic

March 2024 Meeting

DATE: THURSDAY, March 28, 2024
TIME: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
LOCATION: Gotowebinar –
TOPIC: Forensic approach to the hit while parked claim and Slip and Falls… Fact or Friction

The hit-while-park claim always has physical damage that will support or refute the claim scenario.  Discover damage patterns that can assist in determining whether the vehicle was stationary, in motion, principle direction of force, and whether the damage supports a vehicle-to-vehicle impact or a fixed object.  Case studies will be used to illustrate the patterns and principles behind them.

Slip and fall claims are only second to vehicle accidents in cost to insurance companies.  Over 10 % of all slip and falls are attributed to fraud.  This presentation goes into the forensic tools that can be used to determine the cause of a slip and fall, where liability may fall and whether the slip occurred as reported if at all.  Tribometry, human factors and biomechanics will be discussed. At the end of the presentation, I will share what is the plaintiff’s best friend when measuring the friction level of a walkway surface.
