Branch, CFE, A Senior Investigator with the Special Investigations Unit of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, also with Mr. Branch, Patrick Burke of the Robison Group, Investigative Solutions. They will discuss and present on Shell Companies and Hidden payroll: Variations of these schemes will be covered in detail, the use of “shell” companies and non-traditional Money Service Businesses, or, check cashing stores, to funnel construction industry payroll, undetected, to cash-paid labor as well as the broad effects the scheme has on the industry. The discussion will include how unsuspecting carriers can fall victim even when they are unaware that they have any potential exposure. Included will be how the schemes victimize law-abiding businesses and lead some to a “cheat-to-compete” posture as a last resort, adding exposure and risk to their unsuspecting carriers. The presentation will discuss how exposure is not limited to workers compensation or general liability coverage and after attending this seminar, attendees will be able to return to their companies and cross-reference these issues to determine if this is a new source of SIU referrals within their organizations.
